Kids may look preppy, or artsy or hippie, but they share commone traits - bright and from 1 percenter families.

Beware - Kenyon College is one of the SLACs aggressively playing the game to move up the US News ranks. Kenyon has gotten rid of both its application fee and any extra essays other than the Common App. Colleges do this (Colby is another) as a way to encourage more students to apply so that they can reject more and appear more selective.

Different poster. But is June the month when athletes in D3 make their commitments?

Party school as in alcohol and weed? Or something beyond that?

no.

I think the stereotypical Kenyon student is "nice". Whether jock or preppy or brainiac or artsy or hipster or pothead.

My experience with Kenyon is 15 years out of date now, but based on what I've seen or heard the student body hasn't changed much and it sounds like your son would be a great fit. A lot of students I knew from Kenyon at the time were very much like your DS. Work hard during the week, enjoy parties on the weekends, active in campus groups including music groups.

Regarding finance, there are Kenyon grads in finance. He will probably have to work a bit harder to get into NYC finance but it's not as difficult as some may think. The trick is getting several solid finance internships lined up during his undergraduate years. Network, use any connections, even take a free internship just to get that first finance internship in the summer after his freshman or sophomore year (any bank or firm in DC or elsewhere will be fine, it's getting into the door that's important), and if he works hard and does a great job, he'll be well placed for subsequent more senior summer internships and eventually a NYC job after college. The more effort he puts into it, the greater the rewards, and this is true from any college.

I'm a Kenyon grad. I've never had a problem here in DC with name recognition here in DC.

Sorry if this has already been done. The Kenyon threads ones I saw were asking for specific compare/contrasts with specific other schools. Started this Kenyon-only thread as my DC is only looking at one school in Ohio, and this is it. DC is not artsy, though is musical, but fits more into the preppy, athletic (DC is a recruit), work hard/party hard mode, but is despite that, a really sweet kid. DC eventually wants to work in NYC in finance. That last fact is my only hesitation, as I'm not sure whether Kenyon has the name recognition or alum network in that area. Otherwise, stunning campus, strong student body, quality of education...leave little doubt in my/DH's mind that Kenyon is a great fit.

What do you think? Any alums out there who can share experiences. Any parents out there with kids currently or recently attending?

TIA!
