Made them. Bought some felt and yard for about $5 and will use other things from around the house. I am not crafty nor can I sew, but I can use a hot glue gun!

I'm making my kid's costume. It's cost me a total of 7.00 but holy moly, cutting felt is the worst.

I've done both. It just depends on what they wanted to be that year. I'm not making a Power Ranger costume. But a lady bug? I can sew that in less than an hour. One of my kids was a soldier one year. That was super easy because we have a military members in our family. I just hemmed some old ACUs. We already had the war paint and chem lights. Quick and easy. Ninja Turtle? I'm buying that one. Princess? I'll make it. Witch? Super easy to make a really beautiful witch costume. One year I made an adorable astronaut costume. My youngest (now in high school) was Doctor Who last year. That one took a little creativity.

We always had home-made halloween costumes as a kid but I WOH and just don't feel like I have the time. Kids are still too young to do it themselves, so we buy.

Bought them both off Amazon. Last year I got them off eBay. I'm not crafty, but I am frugal.

Depends what the kid wants to be (or I encourage the kid to be). If it's easily bought for $40 or less, done. If not, I'll make it. I'm handy/crafty but always think about the value of my time. The rest of my family is very crafty/handy as well - homemade costumes are the norm. At pre-school - most of the costumes I see are bought.

This year - two bought costumes. Last year, we all dressed up and I made or put together 3 out of 4 costumes.

I love homemade costumes but am so not crafty. Luckily my MIL is and she made DD's. I have it good.

I love love to make them but we are on a tight budget this year...3 in daycare hello!!! So this year I couldn't beat the cartwheel 40 percent off Target costumes...they came down to under 12 dollars each and I hate one hand me down on so we did Halloween costumes for under 25 bucks. If I would of made them I would of NEVER gotten out of JoAnns for under 75 bucks...prob more like 100.

Bought it, of course. $20 and done. I am all for kids making their own costume but it has to be the kids, not the parents. (And since DS is almost 3 he's not quite there yet.) My sister and I used to cobble our costumes together after age 6 or so, frequently using elements of things we already had for pretend play. My parents never lifted a finger. More fun for us that way and frankly they didn't have the time or inclination. We didn't suffer.

A little of both. I bought a T-shirt and sweatpants and crafted around them. I did make his headpiece from scratch.

This year I made one DC's costume and bought the other. I'm actually quite good at making things, and enjoy it. But whether or not I make a costume depends entirely on what it is, how much time it will take to make and how much free time I have to make it.

Last year both costumes were bought.

Many are probably buying homemade off esty and not doing them. I bought them.

We bought ours at Target. I had planned to cobble something together -- I am far from crafty; got a D in home ec -- but my son absolutely fell head over heels in love with something he saw at the store. Forty dollars, done. And he'll use it for pretend play as long as he can squeeze into it.

I feel surrounded by all these people talking about fabric and thread and sizing and god-knows what else... I even got a snide remark about buying vs making. I don't care that much, but I am curious if others bought vs made. (Maybe our crew of apparently super crafty parents are the minority?)
