There's a lion park within a decent drive (maybe an hour?) of Jo'burg where you can see lions/tigers/etc and even pet them. I went bc my bf really wanted to but personally those experiences don't sit well with me. You can still visit the park without petting the sedated animals - if you time it right you can see the lion feeding. They put out a big carcass and you see how all the lions, big and small, each jostle to get their own piece. Near that park is some prehistoric cave - we didn't go there but thought I'd mention it if that's your thing.
