There's a lion park within a decent drive (maybe an hour?) of Jo'burg where you can see lions/tigers/etc and even pet them. I went bc my bf really wanted to but personally those experiences don't sit well with me. You can still visit the park without petting the sedated animals - if you time it right you can see the lion feeding. They put out a big carcass and you see how all the lions, big and small, each jostle to get their own piece. Near that park is some prehistoric cave - we didn't go there but thought I'd mention it if that's your thing.

+1

That's exactly what we did on our day trip. Keep your windows up at the Lion Park!

Thanks everyone- even though it's a work trip, I'm excited to be going. I appreciate the suggestions!

OP I know you asked for a restaurant not a jazz club, but I recommend the Baseline. It's downtown, not up in Sandton.

Soweto tour. Enjoyed a very good dinner at Trumps Butchery (not that Trump) in Mandela Square in Sandton.

I am headed to Johannesburg for a work trip in a few weeks and I'm looking for any suggestions on places to eat and for a day trip on a weekend. I will work for part of the weekend so can only manage a day trip/excursion but would love to see more than just the office. Any thoughts?
