As far as advice right now, stop sticking him in a seated position unless necessary like high chair or whatever. He needs to build strength with crawling and pushing up on his own. It actually can be damaging to put them in positions they are not strong enough to really be in. I'd do lots and lots of floor time.

Anonymous wrote:My DS did it around 10-11 months. Gross milestones have all been late. Pulling on high surfaces (a chair versus a low-surface step) didn't happen until 13.5 months. First steps came at 16.5 months. There was always progression but SLOWER progression.

However, he did finally crawl on hands and knees, around 10.5 months. It was at that point that he really started getting himself into sitting position independently. I bet it will all come in the next few weeks. As for techniques, maybe try to just physically guide him through the movement? Push up on his shoulder lightly while putting his legs in the proper position?
Did he pull up before sitting?
Yes, he pulled up before getting into a sitting position independently. He was able to sit when placed before pulling up.
Thanks, this is encouraging. DS is actively trying to pull up from a sitting position, and while not yet successful, it is making me feel better because at least he is trying. Whereas he is really not trying to sit up independently at all.
