OP here: I don't, but I use my debit card occasionally. Mostly, though, I need to keep track of auto-payments and things like PayPal, etc.

People still use checks?

I don't keep track. I just always keep a 5k cushion in the account. I don't have that many things that I pay out of checking.

Check online a few times a week

Likewise. But I don't balance it. I just check once a month to make sure that all checks I wrote have been cashed, and mark them off.

+1 & my checkbook is always balanced to the penny.

My online account posts immediately. I use an excel spreadsheet to track over time and forecast my balance. I also use a tab in it to track my credit card balance to keep my spending on budget.

OP here: I check online almost daily, but things rarely post immediately, hence my need for the ledger. I use M&T Bank.

OP here: I use the paper ledger religiously, but I feel old every time.

I figured there must be a better way.

I use my bank's app as well as Mint. I also receive texts from my bank whenever a deposit posts.

Do people still use paper ledgers? If not, what app do you use?

Maybe I'm more obsessive than the average bear, but I have to check to make sure each transaction posts. If I don't keep a close eye on transactions/balances, I will likely make a costly mistake.

So, what do you use?
