I believe Tom Cruise purchased rights to the movie though, that's why he's casted as Jack. Not 100% sure and I'm not going to fact-check, but it sounds about right.

Yeah, the Jack Reacher novels are wish fulfillment of a different variety. I don't think that look would translate as well, visually, as it does in the books.
