Despite what Virginians would have you believe, Georgetown's name and reputation are superior to UVA both nationally and internationally. However, whether you consider that difference to be worth twice the price or not is entirely up to you.

UVA is great - why is this even a question

Depends on the kid. But, based on my limited knowledge of UVA and my extensive knowledge of GU (family is very intertwined - 2 GU grads, one prof), I'd say no.

12:47 is right that being in DC makes it easier to intern in DC and if Congressional politics is your kid's thing then maybe they should go for Georgetown. But really - how much do first year students actually know about what they want to do down the road? That can change at any time and saving that kind of money is important - especially if the kid does grad school down the road.

What's your major and focus? If your kid is planning on wanting to intern on the hill or any other dc org during the school year then it is worth it.
