OP here. Thanks all. It is good to know that we've done all of the above suggestions (or a fairly regular basis). So it will be a visit to the US Mint (https://www.moneyfactory.gov/washingtondctours.html) or take them with me to work.

Either way, they'll get to see where the dollars are made...

Go to the Natonal Harbor and take a water taxi to Alexandria. Explore the waterfront and take the water taxi back to National Harbor for lunch.

College Park Aviation museum and walk around UMCP

Take Marc from Bowie to Baltimore to the children's museum or aquarium.

No matter what you do they will enjoy spending the day with you and making memories. Have fun!

NASA's GSFC Visitor Center is open. Stop and walk through the rocket garden, then head inside and the kids can color or climb inside the demo shuttle cabin, try on some astronaut helmets, get some stickers, and run around. At that age, it's not a long visit (it's longer when they have patience for educational videos and reading posters), but it's something to do.

My 5 yo's also love trains, so one time I took them to Greenbelt metro, we metro'ed to Union Station wandered around, had lunch and then came back out.

Since not everyone is off, that might be a good day to take them down the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. It won't be as busy as weekends and summer days.

Pump It Up in Lanham has open jump from 12-6pm.

I would take them here: https://www.nsa.gov/about/cryptologic-heritage/museum/hours

for an hour or so (small museum ), stop in Laurel at Chick fil A or someplace for lunch, and then if the weather is nice, do a walk at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center.

Where do you live? How about your local playground and out to lunch? Or Smithsonian? Or even the movies?

Watkins park, Dave and busters, skyzone, six flags, movies. So much to do with that age. Not sure exactly what you are looking for

Need suggestions for places to go with 5 and 6 year olds.
