I'm with you, OP. DH, DS, and I all get motion sickness. We would basically have to wear motion sickness patches the entire time - and who wants to be drugged all of vacation? My kids are young so people recommend it to us as well as a easy, kid friendly vacation. All I have to do is tell them the story of my Mom on an Alaskan cruise to get them to shut up. She was so violently ill that she spent half the vacation in the infirmary and her eyes were so blood shot from throwing up that doctors and nurses (on the ship and when she returned home) kept asking questions about domestic abuse. No thanks!

And I get the Antarctica or Galapagos angle...the places that are inaccessible otherwise.

I went to on a cruise to Antarctica, because that's the only way to get there unless you want to pay a crazy amount for a flight. It was awesome, but I wouldn't go on a normal cruise. The type of people who want to go to antarctica are different than cruisers to Mexico.

Worse than sea sickness is mal de disembarque. I usually get seasick, but the one time I went on a cruise against my better judgment (Disney), I did not get sea sick, but land sick. It lasted for about 5 weeks after the cruise. I only felt relief while driving.

You need new friends. Cruises suck, they're for retired people who want to travel without actually traveling.

OP. Thanks I just start to think I'm crazy that I'm the only one who isnt jazzed about being on a huge barf boat. And that's before the norovirus.

I did think of one exception. I would deal with the meds for a Disney cruise for my kids.

Carnival is the McD's of cruising, not a good comparison to other lines.

They can be fun, but they're mainly overrated.

Interesting - why did he say he'd never go? (I've been on a few and they're not my favorite but they weren't horrible, either)

Just spoke with someone who went on a cruise and said it was horrible. My cousin used to be one of the higher ups at Carnival. He said he would never in a million years go on a cruise.

Don't do it.

I don't ever want to go on one. I get super seasick except on sailboats. Anti-seasickness medicine makes me tired. Why do people always tell me to go anyway? Why would I waste time and money to be sleepy on vacation? And not ....even be able to drink...which I thoughtwas half of the point.

It's like a freading cult or something. I never say they shouldn't go or that they are dumb to go.....sigh.
