Depends on where you are. Between Dupont and Kalorama, I agree is not too bad to find street parking. But if you're talking about between Dupont and Logan Circles on P street, that is difficult at most times of day.

It really depends on when and where you are trying to park. Most of the streets between Dupont and Logan Circle are rough, particularly as you get closer to 14th. You have to compete with the people coming in for dinner and drinks for spots and it gets old. Street sweeping days are also very annoying, though that's less of a problem if you drive everyday.

So yes, you can find street parking eventually, but if you are driving every day you will end up circling for 15-30 minutes at least once a week. Spring for a place with parking.

Depends on the street and time you are parking. We live on a 1-way street right off 14th street, and there is usually lots of parking with the exception of (1) street sweeping mornings (M,T, spring, summer, fall); and (2) Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings; and (3) Saturday and sunday daytime. Some streets are busy all the time. Like P street and Q street between Logan and Dupont. While you can live in the area without renting a parking space, if you're coming home at 5:30 every night, you will definitely have a couple days a week that you need to circle for parking. Also, you have to have a vacation parking plan during street sweeping months because you can't leave your car out for a long weekend. So if you go out of town for 2 weeks, you either need to find a friend's house to park at, or park at the airport. Another big thing we considered was having a young kid without on-site parking. It would be doable but a pain to have to park 2 blocks from the house and lug home our haul from Target or Giant (when we do a big run every few weeks) with a kid in tow. We decided access to paid parking was a must-do for us, given all that.

We looked at some places without parking, and checked craigslist. There were usually a spot or two available within a couple blocks for $300 a month. Metropole near whole foods I think was the same price. But consider that if you're doing this for work every day, you have to walk a block or two just to get to your parking spot. That would get old for me.

Also consider that housing prices are affected by lack of parking. While not at all a big deal with a 1-bedroom condo, row houses will have trouble gaining value relative to others with parking. There reaches a price point where people expect to have parking (like, if you're paying $1.5m for a rowhouse, you want parking). We found that the rowhouses that sat longer on the market often didn't have parking.

I think it really depends on when you get home from work. Before 5:30 I usually don't have a problem finding street parking. Friday nights are most difficult but otherwise I've found parking in DuPont for the past 5 yrs

There are two colonial parking garages, one across from the Whole Foods in the metropole building and one across from stead park. About 230 a month. Street parking is only an option if you have a lot more time than you have money.

It kind of depends on the street, honestly. Lived in Dupont closer to West End for ten years and had a car there in 2014 and 2015. We started out renting a space we found on Craigslist in the alley behind our house for $200/month, but after a few months we realized we could always find street parking. Got rid of the spot and never had trouble parking on the street.

Street parking in Dupont and Logan is a blood sport. You're also competing with folks in nearby offices and businesses who drive in and park.

You may want to look to more residential areas like Adams Morgan, Woodley Park, or U Street for more parking availability.

Pray you can buy/rent a spot from someone who owns a home but doesn't use it or move into a building that has parking on-site.

If you absolutely have to have a car, the buildings with on-site parking should be your prime focus. It's hard to find street parking in Dupont/Logan and then you're going to worry about parking restrictions as well for something you need to use?

We are looking at the possibility of renting or buying in the area between Dupont and Logan circle. We are seeing alot of places do not offer onsite/reserved parking. What are options for parking besides looking for a spot on the street? Whats the cost? Is street parking difficult to fine for residents? I absolutely need a car for work. Trying to factor this into our decision. Thanks!
