And lastly, do you not see how single issue voting is a massive abdication of civic responsibility in a complex world where we have many issues and challenges to solve?

Less than ten years ago, there were real attempts at compromise, which would significantly strengthen border enforcement, while also providing a path to citizenship for those already here. In the years since the rise of the Tea Party, compromise has become difficult or impossible on immigration.

This problem can only be solved by compromise, by pragmatism, by hard work in the legislative trenchs. I suggest you look at the two candidates and think about which one has policy smarts, which one has legislative experience, which one has the respect of members of Congress of both parties, which one has persistence and prudence and pragmatism.

Very unlikely that anything will happen on immigration. Not with an r congress.

OP here. I am in MD, so it is a moot point. And in some way that makes me feel better, b/c my vote really does not matter.

I was such an Obama supporter and one of the reasons I really liked him was because he was NOT HRC.

It may be hard for some to imagine that I would even consider Trump, but I don't really focus on what an a-hole he is, I just focus on the issues, actually one issue.

I agree with the PP that we have been abandoned by both the Dem and Rep parties.

I don't think this is 100% given PP. I agree that MD is probably a lost cause but you don't know where OP is located.

OP, I don't think you're that unusual, actually. Many of us are struggling with these same issues.

In the end, for me at least, it is coming down to principles over personality. I figure that I can't stand either of them, personality wise. HRC is an obnoxious know-it-all and DT is... well...

I do believe that this is a very important election and it is necessary for all of us to examine what we really think about the issues. The media is trying very hard to make it about the two people involved, but I believe that it goes much deeper than that. The Republican party is completely spineless and useless. The Democratic party has become monolithic for the left. This election is the only chance for we the people to send a volcano message to Washington that we are not happy with the status quo. If for no other reason, I think a Trump win would be beneficial in that way.

Good luck in your decision. But do try to take your eye off of the people involved and think through what each represents.
