According to the chart in the OP link, it is a numerical drop. According to the chart, the number of White, Non-Hispanic students enrolled dropped from 68,849 in 2000 to 46,604 in 2016.

My neighborhood of SS is actually whiter today than it was 10 years ago, but there's also a TON more housing in the area than there was. So our neighborhood of SFHs is getting whiter and more affluent while thousands of low income units go up a mile away.

The issue here isn't so much flight as affordable housing RE development. There has been "white flight" east of the county (w/ the exception of Takoma Park), but it appears its just migrating west of the county. Thus the main reason for the uptick in segregated schools.
On a separate note, I would be curious to see how profitable these affordable housing developers are in this area. MD is not business or landlord friendly for residential and commercial RE business owners. In fact, its extremely tenant friendly. I can't imagine that the margins would be worth it. Unless they are building crappy housing. Maybe thats it.
But that doesn't account for the huge DROP in overall white students in MCPS. Where are they all going?

Not to knock MoCo, but I can think of so many other places in this country that are more affordable, have less crime, and would be easier to transition to. Maybe there are more resources for the Hispanic community; I don't know... But MoCo is pricey and not an easy place to move to.

Anonymous wrote:An article on the huge increase of students overall in the last 15+ years and how Hispanics are now the majority of the students in the entire county. What I am trying to figure out is if the whites are fleeing the county, moving to private schools, or something else. That is a huge decrease in numbers.
