I don't think they need to prep for the material, but my daughter was a little unsettled by the tight time limits. She just had not had tests like that before. If I had realized that would be an issue in advance, I would have had her do a practice test or two just to get used to the format.

That said, even with no prep she did fine. She just missed the cut-off, but got into Algebra anyway and is doing well so far.

Talk to your child's math teacher and ask about this. My child's math teacher talked to all the parents at bts night and let us know that she would be teaching everything the kids would need to know for the IAAT.

We did nothing additional outside of school and our child qualified for Honors Algebra for the 7th grade year and did fine.

I was driving a carload of kids from older elementary through high school who were discussing this test.

The older ones who were placed in Algebra talked about how it was easy and the younger 6th grade kid should not stress or prep for it.

I would just let your kid take it based off what he has leaned in school already and let the chips fall where they fall.

My DC is in 6th grade and I understand that Iowa test will be administered this year. Does the school take care of training the kids or should the parents buy books, work with the child etc.. Also is it aptitude based or any training required? Appreciate any help. Thanks.
