Given that both Kaiser and Aetna have dropped IVF coverage, any thoughts on how to save some money on FETs in the future?

The only thing I can think of doing is SG's Shared risk 100% Refund Program for frozen embryo transfer ($11,500), and using BCBS which covers testing 100%. Any other thoughts?

Thanks guys for the posts. I have since talked with insurance specialist at SG and she did mention the Aetna contract for FET. Open enrollment is coming up soon, so we will probably switch to Aetna to help with the cost. Wish us luck!

We switched from BCBS Federal to Aetna Federal for our FET. SG gives the contracted rate for Aetna and it was a significant savings off of the list price (more than 50%). This was in early 2015 - so it may have changed - but it is worth asking. We did not do the FET shared risk package - just paid per cycle. The premiums for Aetna were also comparable to BCBS and we haven't run into any difficulties with it being accepted by our other providers.

Not a federal employee but we did meet with our financial coordinator when we were in the same situation. As an employee in a local school system our financial coordinator was aware of our insurance options. She advised us of the best plan that my district offered and we went with that. Saved us so much, in the end, as it took 5 cycles before our FET worked.

I had a successful IVF about one year ago and was able to freeze 3 embyros. We are wanting to start the process of FET and curious if anyone has input/suggestions for insurance benefits or coverage? We are patients at Shady Grove. My husband is a federal employee and we have the BCBC open acces plan.
