People love to claim it's low class and they would never associate with anyone who would serve these, but we keep Trader Joe's mini hot dogs wrapped in biscuits in our freezer and those are always the first things gone when people come over.

We always have fruit I can cut up, string beans, carrots, or other veggies I can put out with some dip, wheat thins or something. And I always put out some sort of candy in a small dish - hershey kisses, or jelly beans or something.

Unexpected guests? A cold beer or a glass of wine. Pull up a chair if we have dinner going. Otherwise, if it was food you wanted, you shouldn't have arrived "unexpected."

I keep salame in the fridge-- and chips, if DH does not get to them first.

Cheese & crackers. Trader joes frozen spinach and artichoke dip is good too and you just microwave it. Serve with pita chips

Who says this, just out of curiosity? Are you Australian, watching footie, eating breakie with the bikkies and the chokkie, etc?

We keep unopened, fresh bags of assorted rice crackers, as well as cheeses, good olives, fresh nuts, fruit, hummus, chips, salsa, (and ingredients for throwing together dips), and assorted beverages. In the winter, the teens or I have usually baked something.

What do you keep on hand for unexpected guests to snack on? My cousin just called and we arranged for her to pop over for a drink/snacks with her boyfriend. I usually have some sort of cheese on hand (today it's Brie), and I made a plate of cheese, dried apricots, Trader Joes Fig and Olive crisps and some seasoned nuts. I keep a supply of nuts, crackers, dried fruit, those parmesan crisps, etc on hand and I almost always have a cheese around. Just wondering what other ideas may be out there. I do keep some frozen appy's in the freezer but those don't really lend themselves to "Impromptu" - when you have to preheat an oven, that adds time/complexity.
