They just had a professional day and a 3 day weekend? What the fuck.

Yes and practically a 4 day weekend this weekend. This will be their 4th day off after only being in school 22 days. Those poor overworked teachers.

My DH is an MCPS teacher. He leaves for school at 7 am. He works through lunch meeting with his students. He has meetings after school. Then, when he comes home - he grades more. Then after dinner - you know what he does? More grading and lesson planning. Over the weekend? More grading and lesson planning. He has 150 students. So spare me your sarcastic "overworked teachers" comment.

He works 200 days max a year. He has 150+ days off. So spare me your overworked teachers comment.

I think it's an interim report planning day today and Monday is Rosh Hashanah. Another off day coming up on October 12th

Labor Day = holiday
Professional Day = taken from pre-service, no teleworking allowed, most staff had trainings that normal occur during pre-service
Monday = Holiday

and get ready, because Oct 12 is a holiday too!

This afternoon is for entering interim grades. My ES teacher spouse will be using the afternoon to digest all the beginning of year testing data to form reading and math small groups.

It takes over a month to figure out math and reading groups? And supposedly all teachers/kids flake out after Memorial Day. Not to mention all the days off. Actual school work days are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Calendar says its for planning/grades. Aside from the one professional day, the other day off was a holiday and the upcoming ones are thinly veiled religious holidays that have always been on the calendar.

It doesn't say why. There was just a professional day. Half our bus stop didn't even know there was a half day. So weird.
