Agree! At our house, we also require the main living room to be clean. No toys left around, no clutter, tidy up the couch daily, and vacuum the rug at least 2x/week.

Same here. Plus, who has the desire to shine stainless steel appliances and polish cabinets every day? Not me.

My kitchen is never dirty but there is clutter (mail, school papers, etc) and pots and pans in the drying rack....and fingerprints.

Me too. I cook 3 meals a day and you could lick the floors and counters of my kitchen. But don't enter my office, it's a war zone there... my bedroom closet too!

My kitchen looks like no one ever uses it but I cook 3 times a day. It's the one room I am seriously OCD about. If unexpected company drops in, they will never see a messy kitchen even if I'm in the middle of cooking.

Tips

Clean as you go. Draw a sink of soapy water before you start.
Load the dishwasher as you go
Keep countertops uncluttered
Wipe microwave after each use
If you see it clean it
Dry and save pots immediately
Use Pledge multi surface on everything. It cleans and smells good
Swiffer the floor

This takes me under 30 minutes, 15 if I have husband help. You have to want to do it.

I'm so you! I leave it spotless when I leave every morning for the gym- my husband used to make a holy mess making his lunch and I would come home to it- used to drive me insane. He's finally realized that our kitchen is my version of his office- and I like it my way!

I do a deep clean twice a week (mop and handwash all appliances and cabinet doors that get heavy use). Otherwise I simply clean well after each meal. With three kids we generally fill the dishwasher each day and I run it at night and empty it before the kids get up.

Clean after every meal and gave my husband a "no nag drawer." He puts his crap in the drawer and I don't nag. Spotless kitchen!

I clean as I cook. Try to wash prep dishes while dinner is cooking, including wiping down counters. After clearing the dishes up after dinner, I usually wipe down the stove. I think that it also kind of depends on how your kitchen is organized. I think it looks cleaner if there's only minimal stuff out on counters or whatever. We have a toaster and a coffee maker and that corner looks really busy.

I've been to some homes where the kitchen is absolutely spotless. It doesn't look like anything is ever cooked there. My kitchen is always a messy with pots and pans out and stains on the stove. How do you do it?
