I'm confused. Do people think repairing the sidewalk is free? It's public property. If someone had gone out there with a can of spray paint and painted graffiti all over it, people would have been up in arms. But why is it okay if it's wet cement. Why is this okay?

Let me be clear that these weren't dainty little initials in the corner of a square. It is a LARGE portion of the sidewalk. If I had done that when I was 12 my father would have spanked me with a belt.

Some neighbor kids up the street did this outside their house. I actually think it's cute and smile when I walk past it. Their mom must love it. I also did this as a kid.

Oh the HORROR!

The county is replacing several portions of the sidewalk in our neighborhood because they were old and uneven in places. I just walked past a new patch of the sidewalk to find that a whole bunch of the neighborhood kids carved their names and initials into a large portion of the wet concrete. At least 10 of the sidewalk squares are involved and it looks terrible. I have no idea if their parents know or not but it's not something that's easy to miss. I can't imagine how many years I'll have to stare at that graffitied sidewalk every time I walk by.
