12:31 here. I say PJs, they're usually old shorts or sweatpants and Tshirts. Yes, they are his night clothes, bed clothes, clothes he sleeps in, PJ's, whatever.

DD is 13 and probably washes her sheet about every month or two. She only has one sheet, and we have to pay to use the washing machine and dryer.

I do all the linens on the weekend, so I tell my teenager to bring his sheets up and give him a clean set. No big deal.

NP here. We wear fresh PJs every two days as we take a shower every night before going to bed. I change the sheets every two weeks. I have white sheets and pillow cases and two weeks is the maximum I will go without changing it because I do not want them to become gray or grungy.

My youngest DS is finicky about bed-sheets and pillow cases and only wants beautifully laundered and ironed bed linen when we change it. Since this is his only idiosyncrasy we let it slide. I think he picked this up when my mom was visiting a few years ago and she is an avid iron-er. I grew up in an household where everything was ironed and beautifully stacked in the closets and dressers. Even sheets, towels and underwear!!!

They are smelly.

Sheets are not an issue because all the bedrooms get changed at the same time. PJs are not an issue because he doesn't wear anything.

I would only enforce the sheets being changed on your schedule. That's basic housekeeping and a good lesson to learn at home. If he wants to wear pajamas until they can walk out the door on their own, so be it.

Understandable concern, but once he realizes he stinks, he'll do something about it (hopefully!).

I tend to only pick battles where one person's decision has an effect on someone else and is starting to cause a problem, or if not a situation involving multiple people, then one where the negative consequences of failing to do as I ask would be serious and long-lasting. Otherwise, I try to leave my teens to make their own choices if they're the only one who will have to deal with minor/unimportant/easily reversed consequences. I agree that it's gross, but since the grossness only impacts him I would probably let it go.

How long do you allow your teenagers to go (particularly boys) before making them wash their pajamas and bed sheets? A week? DS 14 says it's "fine" to go longer and I want to pick my battles, but more than a week seems gross. Maybe I'm the oddball, though?
