The law is state by state, and OPs ability to move will largely depend on her divorce agreement, and whether the current custody arrangement can be maintained after a move.

Check your custody agreement. Mine just says we have to give each other 30 days notice in advance of any planned move.

What does your divorce agreement say?

Well, sort of. I'm currently in PG County, as well as my ex. My son goes to school in PG County. I'm moving the Fairfax County, and would like to get my child into a good public school system. Currently, my ex appears to be agreeable, but that fluctuates with the weather. With Me moving to Virginia, am i violating any laws, or jeopardizing my custody? I know that there are laws regarding moving out of state, but seriously, we're talking about around the beltway. Any advice would be appreciated.
