The detector has been replaced three times, but the problem has to do with the movement of heat through our unit rather than any actual smoke. If we shower for more than 10 minutes or the oven goes above 300 deg, the alarm is triggered. Our building manager told us to take the battery out during the day and just put it back in before we go to sleep!!!
I do feel bad if it disturbs or frightens neighbors, but I'm not going to take cold showers, skip using my oven, or risk forgetting to replace the battery to avoid a few minutes of beeping.

Just didn't want to make an issue for our neighbor if they are not home and fireman had to break in a door or something for a faulty alarm.
