I'm a new OP, and I've been looking for a new suit for 5 years. The problem with off the rack suits are: (1) ones at low to midrange stores (limited, ann taylor, etc) are made from very cheap fabrics and look cheap; (2) banana doesn't really make suits anymore, and a lot of the other stand bys have really cut their lines (have you looked at the small number of offerings from Theory lately?); (3) the next level up (J Crew, Theory, etc) have all been using an incredibly unflattering silhouette for the last 5 years. One silhouette is a long jacket that hits at the hip and has very little tailoring. It screams "out of law school interview jacket" and no one ever looks that great in it. Think this:

The other silhouette is an "edgier" jacket that is maybe A-line or not meant to be buttoned boxier thing. It looks ridiculous. When I wear my suits from 10 years ago (two button jackets, shorter, and very tailored) I still get compliments and people asking me where I got it. This this:

I would love to find a tailor to make a nice suit at $1500.
