Moved 6 months ago . I miss seeing people everywhere and walking to work. Though I work in city and am hoping that when I go back I'll feel more myself since I'll be in the city during the day. To the poster who moved to the city, did you live in the city before you went to the burbs. How burb like was your burbs?

Everyone makes trade-offs. We moved from the burbs to the city because we wanted shorter commutes, we missed city life, and we wanted to raise our kids in the city proper. Trade-offs are MUCH less living space, having to pay for private school, and having to make more of an effort to find green space/nature.

How long ago did you move? If it is recent, then you may just need more time to discover the things you love about living in the suburbs.

Agreed. We bought a house in the city knowing we'd have to try the charters and move to the burbs if they don't work out. The house is old and needs a ton of work constantly. Sometimes I wish we had just bought the house in the burbs. Grass is always greener! Walk to the metro and be glad you're not way out in the boonies.

What is keeping you from walking more? I live in close-in Silver Spring (walking distance to Takoma Metro) and I'm closer here to the library, grocery stores, schools, etc. than I was when I lived in the city. Just because you have a car doesn't mean you need to use it!

No matter where you go, and it has nothing to do with city vs. suburb, it can take years to really feel at home with a close group of friends.

I hope it gets better for you, and it sucks, but you have to be patient and keep trying.

Well we searched for two years for a home in DC and settled on one that I hate. I still love the neighborhood, but trust me the grass isn't completely green over here. We all have to sacrifice something. First few years in the house and all I did was daydream about a fixed up house in the burbs.

I am sorry. I'd hate the suburbs too. Try to focus on the positive. I assume you have some land? Put your little one outside and let him run around in the grass. Hopefully that brings a smile to your face. If it's right over the border, is it in the nicer/more urban suburbs like Takoma Park or Bethesda? Hopefully there is stuff there that you can walk to. And at least you aren't way the hell out in Virginia like Reston or something. could be worse!
