Look near the Gloucester Road tube station in South Kensington. It's a straight shot from Heathrow on the tube and you can walk all around Kensington and to the area near Harrods. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza.

Personally I stay in Paddington, which is a terrible area (touristy and ugly), but very convenient for the heathrow express. I just need somewhere to dump my bag, I don't spend any time there.

I agree with this. Somewhere near Hyde Park too. The Mayfair. I also like the Goring mentioned above, but that is in Belgravia.

Kensington or Mayfair. Depends on what you want to shop for and how much you want to spend on good food.

Are you flying into Heathrow? and flying out? That's a big PITA.

Stopover on a work trip. Will have about 30 hours all told. Budget around $325/night.

What neighborhood would you recommend for someone who wants to walk, shop, people watch and eat some good food?
