Would it be worth it for 4 days, assuming driving was the only option? Would it be better to go somewhere closer? If so, where? I'm looking for a relaxing and somewhat romantic getaway.

We go several times a year, usually fly into Greenville.

Allegiant Air flys direct but the post just reported on their terrible safety record.

We have done it many ways 66/81 then 26 seems the quickest and prettiest. It is 8 hours, a smooth drive, nothing like 95.

Another option is to fly from Reagan directly to Greenville/Spartanburg which is an hour south of Asheville. Flights are fairly cheap.

I did it this summer and it's more than 7 - it was more like 8-9 plus stops. I wouldn't do it for 3 days, in my opinion. You can but will only have one day in Asheville....

I have family near there and have done it multiple times with a toddler and a dog. Yes, it's long, but pretty and traffic is usually not an issue once you get past close-in 66. Use waze and it will route you around if there's an accident or something. Go 66-81-77- not sure exactly from there but you'll be close by then.

7 hours is pretty optimistic, honestly. For a long weekend that would be a lot of time in the car. Problem is, flying isn't a great alternative. There is an airport there but you'll have to connect in Charlotte or just fly to Charlotte and rent a car. Either way, you don't really save a ton of time.

Drive is doable but probably only worth it if you can take an extra day.

It's about 8 hrs and I never found it to be full of traffic like 95. I wouldn't do it just for a weekend though b/c you'll spend 2 days driving to/from. Very pretty drive esp on 26 south from Johnson City down to Asheville.

8 hours for us. 66 to 81 to something else. We stayed overnight in Wytheville at the Bolling Wilson Hotel, which was awesome.

We went to the Natural Bridge, too

It's an easy drive. 66 to 81 to 77 to 40 (or 81 to 26). Give it 8 hours and enjoy!! Beautiful drive too!

We went west on 66, then south on 85, but yes, it's that long. It's a long-ass drive. But pretty!

Can you fly? If you have to take 95 south for a long weekend it's going to be awful.
