My ds had a 'stache and needed to start shaving at age 12 and we, too, thought he was too young. I'm not sure why we thought there was some "right" age for it, but once he started shaving at 13.5, he was soooo glad he did and wondered why he waited so long. It looked so much better and it wasn't immediate that he needed to do it every day. It took about six months to get to that point. Even so, it takes about one minute.

My 12 year old also has a fairly dark and noticible mustache. Kids at school have mentioned it and my son thinks it's hilarious. We've told him to just let us know when and if he wants to learn how to shave it.

My 12-year-old has more than "fine hairs" on his upper lip. He's got a sweet 'stache that other kids comment on. He likes it. His older brother might be a bit jealous of it. We won't even discuss shaving until he brings it up.

The regrowth is exactly why I thought about waxing as a stop-gap solution for the next year. But another poster has already said no to waxing. Any other thoughts on this? To be clear, yes DS is definitely bothered by the budding mustache but is also not dying to shave and sees it as a pain in the neck to avoid as long as possible. (We have talked about it.)

Why isn't this his decision?
You can offer to teach him how to shave.
You can also tell him that as soon as he shaves, the regrowth will be much more noticeable! He might want to wait another year or two.

My son started shaving a few weeks after his 12th birthday because he didn't like the budding mustache (apparently kids at school were mentioning it). I wasn't shocked, my younger brother started at the same age and my son is like his mini-me. My husband taught him to shave without too much fuss and there hasn't been any issue since. I admit I was worried it would be a disaster but it was all pretty easy.

He is barely 12. I guess I thought most kids are a bit older when they start to shave. DH thought the same. We could be out to lunch of course. DS is not immature but not overly mature. Was hoping there was some way to spare him yet another grooming task right now.

Why is he too young? Are you worried about him cutting himself? I think an electric razor would be more comfortable than shaving.

My 12 year old has hairy legs, arms, and now the upper lip is full of visible fine hairs. He seems much to young to have to shave but is starting to be a little uncomfortable with the visibility of the budding mustache. Is it crazy to think about waxing? What else does wise DCUM have to offer me in way of advice?
