DC's aftercare costs are, generally, less expensive than those in surrounding jurisdictions. Though I agree that the range of fees charged by different schools seems crazy. I think it's hard to staff a program for just a few hours a day.

LAMB is $400/month for after care (3-6 PM), managed by the school. There's a scholarship rate for families that qualify for FARMS.

I agree with you that it's high...but yours is not the highest as you had originally stated.

That's true, but I continue to believe they are all too high.

That said, other than YMCA are there any good, affordable contractors out there?

So springboard is $430 for full time aftercare alone (not at higher drop in rates). Mundo verde has been raked over the coals on this board and their full time regular aftercare rate is $440 a month until 6 (more if you need until 6:30). Yu Ying is $450 a month for full time aftercare until 6.

So it's probably among the highest, but not the absolute highest in the District.

OP here. In our case, it was the first time the leadership had negotiated such a contract (they had a previous provider for 10 years) and just got taken for a ride, unfortunately.

As for subsidy, because our building is not renovated and not ADA compliant, we do not yet qualify for the subsidy and won't until those renovations are done, hopefully for next year.

Why is there such disparity with Springboard? I know some campuses like Kipp need like 30-60 minutes less time in care because school ends at 4. But I don't get:

Do you have a high-FARMs rate? I was about to say, wouldn't they qualify for subsidies and doesn't Springboard provide some scholarships or other program to offset costs? I can see how it would impact middle income families that do not qualify though. That is really high if you have multiple kids.

Current provider is Springboard. It offers flexibility, which is good, but most parents are unhappy with the quality and price -- somehow we got gouged and pay more than anyone in the city.

OP - who is your school's current aftercare provider?

Do folks like Murch program? Don't they have language immersion?

Our school is going to be rebidding our aftercare contract and I hope and pray we find someone better. In order to facilitate that process I'd like to collect any names of aftercare programs that are:
- flexible
- affordable
and/or
- high quality

I know we probably can't get all three.
