DC is 5th grade AAP now. Every year has been the same. Difficulty of work is still way below her level. She's bored with the class, the teachers (outside a few specials teachers), and most of the kids. We're moving her to a college prep privates school which is allowing her to skip a grade.

My son is thriving -- really loves (and I was definitely concerned he would not keep up). He loves his teacher so that helps. He doesn't really fit in with the kids though. They are more indoor-types and computer game lovers. My son plays sports. Other than not making super great friends, all is good.

My eldest- first year she hung out kids from her school that transferred over until November or so. It was a comfort thing I guess. She branched out and developed her own group of friends and has maintained that 2 years out.

one week in. so far so good. we gave DD the choice of whether to switch schools to attend and be a part of the program. she was placed in the same class as a friend and the new school is very close to our home so she could walk but takes the bus.

Rough for many kids (including mine) until about Tgiving because of the increased homework and expectations. Then settled into it.
Child wanted to stay at the school he knew. Would often say "you made me go [to center]" and "I want to go to [base school]".
Child really changed socially when he was included in a certain group of boys later in winter. But, those friends didn't last into the next year and he was best buddies with a different kid.
Homework was definitely more, but DC learned how to get more done by the last quarter. Same thing happened in 4th grade.... seemed like a lot at first and then by the end of the year it seemed like very little homework. I think he got better at doing it (and started taking ADHD meds -- maybe more productive AT school so didn't need to bring as much home).
More quantified standards for every project at AAP. More quantified grading for every test/assignment in AAP. Not necessarily a lot of communication on weekly activities unless it required home effort.
If your child is struggling.... wait until Tgiving (or Xmas) to make a decision. Just take it one day and one week at a time.

When did your child make the transition? Did you child have an opinion about switching to a center? What surprised you? How did you child adjust socially and academically? Did homework increase? Was there an adjustment period for your child? Did you see a difference in teacher/parent communication?
