Ya think!?!?! Again, the point of Rec is Social and accessible. If I my kid was on the team I wouldn't give you one cent either. I'd go to the club first and try and get my money back before I'd pay anyone to coach a rec team.

We pay $2000/yr for travel including tournaments and 3x/week practice. Wouldn't pay that for rec!

People hire coaches for rec leagues?! Sad that no parents are willing to step up and volunteer.

OMG, don't waste your money on a coach for a rec league. We pay a coach to run drills with our MSI Classics team but the kids are playing up a year and several of them are very serious about going travel next year. We pay $100/hr. And I find college players not very reliable and some of them are not that nice to the little kids. Just because you're a good player doesn't mean that you're a good coach, especially if you're 19 years old and haven't had any training to be a coach. Those kids only pay attention to the superstar strikers and frequently reinforce a kick and run strategy rather than passing.

Do not hire a coach for rec. just have parents rotate the overseeing responsibilities of practice and at games and allow everyone similar playing time. $15 book w some drills and do your best to have the kids try them at practice and have fun.

Oh, sweet Jesus. It is rec, seriously? I suppose if nobody is willing to step up and coach sure but I would take it to the club first. The point of rec is that it is supposed to be low cost and accessible.

yes, this is stoddert rec league. i know other teams have paid coaches but we don't. some of them pay more than $1000 a term, about $80 a week. can't tell if it is worth doing it given that parents pay registration fees also.

Is this in a rec league? I am surprised by the number of Stoddert rec league teams that have paid coaches, even at the very young ages. I think in DC parents are busy and some feel unable to handle coaching.

I don't know where they get them or how much they are paid, and i do know parents still have to do the team management. Maybe call the league in which they play and see if they have recommendations.

Hire a personal coach for sports only if you know they are good. Or the majority of people think they are good (if you are not aware they are not good). Maybe try calling those soccer teaching company and ask for one of their coaches.

This still is not answering a few questions. What is the situation? Are you affiliated with a club or is this just a band of kids? Since clubs usually provide coaches I am a t aloss for understanding what the situation here is.

My 16 year old coached a rec league team last year because none of the parents wanted to volunteer (every other team had a parent volunteer). The parents all took turns paying him 20 bucks a week which included one weekday practice and one game on the weekend.

Ask around and see if any U15 - U18 travel players are interested in making a few extra bucks by coaching.

Ummm, what kind of team does not have a coach and why as parents do you feel obligated to provide for one?
