We have two children in the same school this year and still only planned on one of us attending. Teachers will go through presentations twice. I thought about skipping this year since DH is out of town but our youngest is in K so I have a sitter coming.

Yes, a plus one is not a requirement. One should arrange child care though.

At our school, both parents usually go. And, yes, when the kids were young, we got a sitter. In high school, if you have more than one kid, it is necessary to split up --I don't know what people do if they have more than two.

Generally one parent goes to back to school night. This must be your first child or your only child, or your child is in K.

Have the parent go that will be 1. Communicating with the teacher and other parents this school year. 2. Volunteer at school or field trips.

K and first, we both went. 2nd - I went alone. Third, I'm going to skip it, especially since I met the teacher at the open house. It really is identical each year.

One parent max.
Last year I didn't even go (three kids----grades k, 4, 5) and amazingly I didn't miss anything. It's the same song and dance every year.
