Subject: Tell me about Aspen Hill, MD and near Westfield Wheaton
There is part that feeds into Wood MS which is a good school. We also know at least two families at our private that live there (near the Giant and the Panera). They have large, nice houses and money left over to send the kids to private.

Pp where do you live? Is it in the area op is looking or even nearish like 20906? I would venture to bet not or you would not be posting that.
None of us that have lived in that larger area and are steering op away from the specific spots she asked about and towards other areas nearby that are more middle class are against living in an area with immigrants. If so we would be telling her to cram into a condo in a W district or move to Olney and drive for 1.5 hours each way to work.
It is rather living in an area that is almost ALL immigrants that is the issue - as it would be with living in any lower income area where added onto that detraction you have a likely language barrier with many neighbors. Pp, if you live in Bethesda and are saying "what is so bad about living by immigrants - I live by people from France and India?", then you have no clue and cannot be helpful to op.

The neighborhood where Bushey is located is nowhere near Wheaton Plaza. It's south of Aspen Hill and it is literally 100% newly arrived immigrants doubled/tripled up. It makes 20906 look like Potomac.
Yes, it does. I was just letting OP know there are some OK places not too far away that they may want to check out and see if they are in their price range. Bushey is not a place I would want to live or visit on a regular basis, but there are other parts of Wheaton and places in the Aspen Hill / Glenmont vicinity that aren't that bad and would be diverse and fine to live for a while. You can't really tell from the real estate listings, and the market is slow right now.

I'm the person who lives in 20906, and I go to Wheaton and eat out and shop,etc. It's not as bad as some people are portraying, at least now. They've been working on redeveloping.
But, would not live on some of the streets where I would be the only English speaker and the only non-hispanic. We did tour some of the areas and look at a couple houses; people would come out to stare at us becasue we were such a novelty. Packed with people--look for large nubmers of trash cans and an excessive number of cars, if you want to see which houses are essentially boarding houses.

^This is a neighborhood that is 100% newly arrived Hispanics who are doubled/tripled up in tiny homes. Lots of drug dealing and gang activity. It's not the kumbayah cultural experience you think it is.

We live in 20906, but futher down Layhill going towards Bel Pre. Many of the areas off Layhill are more diverse--mostly black and white US-born, with Asian, Southeast Asian, Hispanic and other neighbors. The further you can get from Glenmont metro the more diverse the area becomes.
I would look at Strathmore at Bel Pre, or the areas flanking Layhill near there, or the areas off New Hampshire. Tivoli is pretty nice too. All those areas have a wide range of people and are diverse. The Longmead area is pretty nice and sometimes has smaller homes and townhomes with garages.

The Bushey Dr house is in a neighborhood that is 100% Hispanic with multiple families living in SFHs.

We used to live not far but where those houses are is almost all lower income immigrants. Perfectly nice people I am sure in most cases but unlikely you will feel you fit will. But there are some nicer spots not far from there.
For that general area and metro accessible look in the Glenallan ES zone - just a little further east of where you are looking - in Tivoli neighborhood there may be some THs in that price range with garages. We lived in a TH in another neighborhood in the zone. Glenallan ratings are - like any other school in Aspen Hill and Wheaton - not good but we and the other parents we knew that gave it a shot liked it a lot. You can do a search on here and see past comments on it.
