It's constant. Instead of stuff ending when the school day is over, it spills into texts and Instagram and snapchat. So stuff that would have fizzled out just keeps rolling on.

What I've observed is that the mean girls have moms who are also mean, or a little insecure. They'd rather have their kids be the mean one than the one left out.

This, and a huge part of it is parenting as many parents refuse to be involved or monitor what their kids are doing.



Yeah, if you read the post in Teens about an overwrought mom contacting other parents to complain about their kids, none of the parents of teens who replied were willing to consider that their kids might be acting mean.

This, and a huge part of it is parenting as many parents refuse to be involved or monitor what their kids are doing.

I think the mean behavior actually is starting a couple of years earlier than it did when I was growing up.

I agree. Social media and texting is out of control for some girls. Parents really need to keep up on what is going on especially in middle school.

No, but I think it probably looks that way when it impacts your family.

What I have noticed over the years is the uptick in parents ignoring inappropriate or unkind behavior from their children. If kids are not corrected they never learn the behavior is inappropriate, unkind or inconsiderate.

It seems that girls are under a lot more pressure due to sexualization at a much younger age than in previous generations. I imagine this has a lot to do with what you're observing.

Grant it I am an older mother but they seem meaner to me even in kindergarten. My third grader is having such a hard time at school.
