We use Dr David Chen in Bethesda for our DS with ASD/ADHD, combined type. Medication has made a world of difference for DS who would be considered on the milder end and already had an IEP for the ASD. Never had academic issues and excels in math and chess but treating the ADHD with medication has made his life a whole lot better and happier.

I've heard good things about him too.

I've also heard good things about this group:

And you could also try Gonzalo Laje. I think he's in CC DC.

I think most people were missing the point of your post that you were looking for specific names.

When we went over the report with the neuropsych dr, she suggested that we hold off on medication for now (my impression was because his is on the milder end of the spectrum), and focus on getting him school accommodations and executive function tutoring. We were denied in our request for a 504 plan, but we have started him with executive function tutoring. The problem that I am seeing is that what is likely his adhd tendencies (inability to focus, stay on task, etc.) are holding him back from absorbing the executive function coaching. I wonder if he needs the adhd treated in order to absorb the executive function skills. Bt I am unclear what doctor I would take DS to in order to discuss the option of medicating? His pediatrician is good but no expert in the field of adhd and medication. DS is a growing 12 year old and takes other medications and I would want to make sure that any prescribing doctor understands all of that and gives us the best advice given his age, other medications he takes, etc. Can anyone please point me to the type of doctor we would see (developmental pediatrician? psychiatrist?) after having a neuropsych exam - and if you have specific recommendations I would love that, too (we live in upper NW). Thank you!

Your inclination is right. A psychiatrist expert in ADD inattentive said medication is necessary for interventions to be beneficial. Ask your pediatrician to prescribe or recommend a psychiatrist to do so.

You can also ask your pediatrician for a referral to a child psychiatrist he/she trusts.
