But did you give up your right to compensation?

Compensation for what? If you sold before the scandal, you got FMV.

It sounded like PP sold after the scandal-- but the compensation hasn't been approved by the court yet so no one can actually collect yet. That's why I wondered if someone who traded in post-scandal would have lost out on compensation.

Aren't you worried about resale?

Not really, no. We drive our cars into the ground, so we've never really figured we'd get much of anything on resale. When our last car bit the dust (at 15 y/o), we donated it.

You will be required to get the s/w fix to get an emissions inspection. The fix will kill mileage and performance - which is why they cheated in the first place. You are much better getting out it while the offer is available.

We are upset that 1) this is a taxable event and 2) they are not covering the taxes paid upon the original purchase.

It is income, of course it is a taxable event - VW can't control that

Why would they cover taxes on the original price - you are getting value back for the car now

Neither of those arguments makes any sense to me, however waiting until the very end of the 2 year period, assuuming the value of the buyback is the same, would be smart.

The deal is structured to prefer buyback so by definition, that is the better deal financially, that's the way it is set up

The fix most likely will put more restriction on performance.

I'd suggest following websites such as Fred's TDI (TDI Club) and VWVortex for best info/resources.

I think you might be out of luck. Had it been AFTER the story broke, then yes, perhaps. So what happens to the second hand buyers? Are they entitled to anything?

Not a VW diesel owner but a non-VW diesel owner here. I am interested in seeing the stats on buybacks as well. I think an overwhelming percentage of owners are opting for buying back money. If I were in your shoe? A3 E-Tron, BMW 328d, Mercedes diesels, etc.

Any VW TDI owners out there? Do you plan to take the buyback? What car do you plan to buy instead?
