What is better about Downtown Charleston? If you are coming from the DC area you can get your fill of Sushi, Thai, Louis Vuitton, and lulemon before you leave or when you get back.

I'm confused by your argument as Savannah has Thai food, sushi, and a Lululemon too. It's waterfront is like a strip for college kids looking for cheap beer and it's not very pretty. Charleston's downtown waterfront has beautiful houses and a lovely park. Then a couple of blocks away are shops and restaurants.

Charleston is hands down more commercialized than Savannah. So you avoid River St. and there is a lot more green open space in Savannah with historic homes.

I just visited both on the same vacation a few weeks ago. Charleston, hands down.

+1. Went last month. Not a fan. Was not charmed.

Until I saw this was in the Travel forum I thought this was going to be a baby name debate!

Made popcorn for nothing. Sigh.

Savannah, especially for girls weekend. You can walk into a bar and carry your drink anywhere in the city limits.

We stay at the Westin (more of a resort setup) directly across the river from River St. touristy stuff and the rest of downtown. Free shuttle boats go back and forth every 20-30 minutes.

Search archives. This question has been asked a million times.

I like Savannah better. A little edgier.

I love Savannah, but I'd base my decision on the cheapest/easiest flight.

Charleston, hands down. Like steak and amazing cocktails? Hall's steakhouse is the number one steakhouse in the us. Make reservations now.

Going on a girls trips...most seem to think we should go to Savannah plus we want to visit Palmetto Bluff which is 20 min away. Thoughts? We will go for 4 days in late Sept.
