Lots of DCUMers thought she had an attitude and was a poor sport. I disagree.
She should salute the flag like the rest of her teammates.
Nope.
Why?
First--what is the procedure for saluting the flag? for a non-military person? When singing the national anthem, it is not required to place hand over heart. She stood respectfully as it was sung.
Second, don't be a follower, be a leader. She was doing what she was taught to be correct. What her teammates did was incorrect, so why should she follow what they were doing?
Third, I think she just wasn't feeling it that day. And she just couldn't fake it. So why fake it? It wasn't like she was up there laughing and pointing to people in the audience a la Michael Phelps.
I have watched on average about 6 hours of Olympic coverage every day since it started and I have only seen the swimmers and gymnasts place their hand over heart when winning the gold. Why is that? Maybe, just maybe they are doing it wrong and everyone else knows the correct procedure.
