Thanks

Is it just the window replacement or are they making new frames? We paid Unicorp around $8000 for new frames+windows (12 windows) about 4 years ago.

That's about twice what you should be able to pay for a good quality window and install. Get more estimates.

It depends on the windows. Higher end Anderson, Pella and Marvins can easily run $450-600+ depending on the size of the window not including install. You'd get the best price from companies that make their own.

We used Universal Windows and I think we paid around $450 per window, but we didn't pick their highest option.

Nova Exteriors just bid me about $700 / window for Verde windows, which are higher-end vinyl. I previously used the same company for my ProVia door and was extremely happy with the service. Despite the name, they work in DC.

Home Depot actually has very nice high quality special order windows. You might want to do research about what you are buying vs. just style. What are the materials used, how are they going to do the install which is just as important as the windows (is trim going to be replaced)? We got a combination of Marvin's, Anderson and the vinyl at Home Depot and all work equally as good.

American Windows - high end company, but they do a great job.

Weathershield from Quality Window in Beltsville. We got windows that were wood on the interior and aluminum clad on the exterior with mullions on both sides as you describe. Holding up well after 10 years.

We got an estimate from UniCorp for $875 per window, installed for their higher end replacement windows. I liked the look of them a lot, they have the dividers on the inside and outside rather than just between the frames, so they look more like our current wood windows. I want to get at least one more estimate to have a comparison price. I know to stay away from Thompson Creek (pushy and over priced).
