Didn't Shirley MacLaine's character in Terms of Endearment announce that she was middle-aged at 60 and her daughter sarcastically said, "Sure, you're going to die when you're 120 years old"?

Once you get past 60 it's hard to call yourself middle aged no matter what. Reality intrudes.

I am 52. In hindsight, I think middle age begins when things start taking noticeably longer to heal: a twisted ankle can hurt for months. That starts somewhere around 40.

Why are you posting on a 50+ board at age 38?

Been married to DH for 18 years, have a teen and tween, single family home, got the retirement savings and college funds going; DH senior at his career, our vacations are not thread-bare but a little more luxurious...

It's sort of that age that is fun to be living in, because things are settled and (except for some teen drama, of course) there is no drama. So it sounds boring, but contentment isn't a good story, drama is.

Also, for many women, it's that age where you decide there is no way you can look 20 anymore, so you settle down mentally about the stress of aging, and decide to look good for your age.

Do you still desire and have sex?

based on actuarial tables, about 42 for women.

(you might protest that you go to Barre and you look amazing with no wrinkles, but your organs that you cannot see are middle aged at about 42)
