When my DS outgrew kids' sizes, Shoe Train referred us to a running shoe store. We've been happy with our local running store. Younger kids still get their shoes from Shoe Train (so do I because my feet are small enough for kids' shoes. Saves me a lot of money!).

7 is the biggest kid size and the smallest mens size--the length is (supposedly, obviously different brands run differently) but the width is different. Kids/womens are B width and mens is D. That's what's making it awkward, I think. If you buy Nikes, you'll see 7Y for the kids 7 and regular 7 for mens. We're on vacation now, and just went to some outlets--they always seem to have good stuff on clearance for the smallest and biggest sizes.

If he's not in size 7 yet, and the mens shoes are really too big, Zappos has tons of options. You can search by size available. It is an awkward size, but as PP said, they can jump through them quickly (sometimes).

I have a very tall kid and he went through this around 9yo. It was a nightmare at first since it's impossible to find shoes in stock in very small men's sizes. Plus they are double the cost of kids' sizes in most cases. Zappos is your friend, but occasionally I was surprised to find stuff at discount places in small sizes. Be forewarned - they can grow quickly at this stage!! My son is now 12yo and wears a size 12 men's shoes.

What size does he wear? DS wears 5.5 wide and we order most from Zappos since stores never have many wides in stock. They have larger kid sizes and have a good variety at least through 7. I just looked and they go to 9 but there a weren't as many styles in that size.

Ive had the same problem with the in between size. For now I just got him women's shoes (obviously not the pink ones) as my sons feet are currently the same size as mine.

If I could easily find men's 7s that would be great, but the stores don't seem to have many....

There are some kids' shoes that go up to 7 - New Balance for example. My son is 11 and size 8 so I just ordered a bunch of sneakers online. I don't know why they would be different - you might just have to try different brands.

DS is 10 yrs old and has maxed out on kids sizes. Now trying on men's smallest shoes, size 7 and they are awkward fitting. What do you all do?
