But, yes, it's Shakespearean. The car came second.

I went to high school with a Portia. She fit the name, she was super trashy.

Merchant of Venice is one of my favorite plays, and Portia is a strong woman: intelligent and rich, but unwilling to entirely play along with the idiotic roles handed her. tough , smart lawyer lady.

Of course, she also arguably tricks her (arguably gay) fellow into marrying her. So, that's tough.

I don't personally like the sound of the name. But the associations are top notch!

It's ok on paper, sort of a heavy-handed literary reference, but if I someone introduced themselves to me with hat name, I'd wonder if it was Portia or Porsche. And roll my eyes a bit.

That's worse.

Agree with PP that it's good on paper but bad IRL. use nymbler to find something close in style.

And you absolutely get veto power.

Wouldn't be on my list, but what matters is what you think.

DH likes the name Portia for our baby due in mid-September. I think it's a horrible name that sounds like a car. This is after he suddenly didn't like the girl's name I thought we has decided on, and we don't have much longer to actually pick a name.

For reasons of avoiding drama, we want to avoid asking our families for name feedback. So, what does DCUM think - good or not?
