Isn't it weird that she works a 4 hr shift that ENDS 30 min after the restaurant opens? So she is done working at noon right at the peak of lunch?

I imagine Secret Service had something to do with this and it's probably safer her for not to have too much contact with the public -- but she gets a 30 min taste of the beginning of the lunch hour. What is going on at the restaurant from 8-11:30 am? I imagine there's some setting up of tables/dishes etc., maybe taking some takeout orders? But that seems like an odd shift to work before lunch really starts.

Sometimes they do because it looks good on a college application. That's not this case, though. I respect this.

My DS had his first informal job -- housesitting for neighbors at 12 yrs old. At 13 he had a 5-week CIT volunteer job and we've paid him for that. He'll probably continue the volunteer job until he can be paid staff at age 16.

People don't hire 13 year old any more.

Volunteering a few days a week or babysitting a few days a week is good enough for a 13 year old. They are going to be working the next 60 years of their life let them have fun.

She had a job and it was during the summer; summer job. She's also not working to impress you.

She is 15. I don't think anyone would hire a 13-year-old for this, and even at 15 it's hard to get a summer job since you need a work permit (at least in Montgomery County).

It took my 18-year-old DD a while to find a job this summer.

Love it! I will be in Martha's vineyard next week.. but I think she will be done by then.

pretty sure security is also a factor- its easier to monitor an indoors situation.

You never know- maybe its a discipline situation or she just wanted to do something normal?

Anywho- this makes me love this family so much more!

Food service is the worst. Couldn't she work at a putt putt stand or something?
