5 pairs for school. 5 more for play. That shouldn't take up a lot of room?

I just dedicate 1 dresser drawer to leggings, and I make sure it is seasonal (ie, no capris in the winter). As it gets closer to laundry day, there are fewer pairs in there and easier for DD to choose.

In your case with open shelves I'd just try getting some baskets that fit and keep school leggings in one basket, and the rest in another and she can just hunt through the basket and grab what she needs.

We use a drawer. Since you don't have that, I'd suggest a crate. We did that this summer for DS: one for underwear, one for t-shirts, another for swim trunks. He was self-directed and able to dress himself all summer. Heaven! I wish things could be so simple for DD. Too many pieces need hangers. Otherwise, this would most-definitely be our set-up for the coming school year.

OP here. Thanks for all the replies! I feel deeply organizationally challenged. I think I will indeed go to target today and get the baskets. As for the scarf rack hangy thing, how are you supposed to put the leggings in that? is the the flat horizontal lines kind or the honeycomb circles together kind? So folded in half vertically and then hang it at the hole half again at the knees?

Pier 1 and the Container Store usually have better basket options than Target. Container Store ones can be very pricey though.

My friend uses the honeycomb kind. She folds them the long way then threads them thru.

I roll them and then put them in the Skuub box in the drawer.

We roll, but my friend uses those scarf hangers and it works for them. Both girls wear leggings to school as part of a uniform Nov-April.

Get an under the bed storage box and fold and store them vertically. You can look up videos on how to fold for vertical storage if you don know how to. You can also use boxes you already have (maybe shoe boxes). Just make sure its not too deep.

My 5 year-old has lots of leggings, some for school uniform, others for regular wear and others are thicker pant/leggings for winter. She has a tiny, already stuffed closet and only narrow open shelves in a very small bedroom (no chest of drawers). What is the most efficient way , in your experience, to store the leggings/pants? If they're all folded up it;s hard to tell what I'm looking at (capri vs full length).
