FYI what I do is after searching flights (say, on Expedia), if I don't purchase right away, then before I go back I clear out the Expedia cookies so they don't jack up the price.
I will say that one time I was purchasing tickets on one of these sites (Orbitz/Expedia/Travelocity) and after I had gone through all the seat selection etc, when I hit the "charge credit card button," the site said, "oop! We hate when this happens, your fare has increased $x"
I was SO beyond pissed but at that point I was rushed for time and just ate it. Now I'm mad at myself that I don't remember which site it was, because I never want to use it again.
Incognito is a setting in Chrome (maybe Firefox, but I am unsure), and it helps with certain sites (Washington Post is an example) that have paywalls so you can look at the website unlimited times instead of a few times a month.
