I like the It's Not the Stork series as well. One is for younger kids and one for older.

The Care and Keeping of You, which is probably one of the books this PP is referring to, is AWFUL. Highly recommend against it. Very alarmist and insinuates girls should feel awkward and embarrassed to talk to close adults about body changes. I bought it, read it, and returned it without even showing my daughter.

I agree with you, PP. This book is also very limited in scope, largely due to the company's Christian/conservative focus. Any book worth its salt should dare to mention taboo topics that far too many uptight DCUM moms would never dare mention to their daughters. Topics like the role of the clitoris and the pleasures of masturbation, etc.

I got "Whats happening to me" girls edition for my 8yr old dd. There is just enought text on each subject with caroonish drawings. At the back there are a few pages that cover boys puberty so girls can understand their changes.

I got it for my niece & nephew for Xmas, and they both rolled their eyes, but then secretly spent the rest of the night reading it.

That book is great!

I got it for my 8 year old, but I don't think she was all that interested yet. So I'm curious -- how old are your neice and nephew?

+1 for the American Girl books. We got "It's So Amazing" for my 7YO DD, and I'm not a fan. I'm pro-choice, but the casual inclusion of abortion in a book for elementary- school aged kids was shocking to me.

Show her the Rachel Ballinger Youtube videos. I think they're called Educational Sunday or something.

DD is almost ten and already showing signs of puberty. I want to read a book with her about sex and menstruel cycle that is age appropriate. Please recommend a good book. Pictures would be good too (I think)
