Because parents take the time to teach their kids in the rural parts of the state.

Urban legend. It all started six years ago when they changed the test and added street driving. Kids would fail, simply because they sucked at driving, and returned to their high school with the complaint that "Gaithersburg, White Oak, Beltsville, Cumberland, etc, etc is so hard" and thus the urban legend was born. A kid who has good driving habits and has been taught well by the parent will pass anywhere in the state. Kids who copy the bad habits of the parents (and there are plenty in this catergory) will fail anywhere in the state.

The video shows that 77% pass at Hagerstown while 69% fail at Beltsville. Why is there such a difference between the locations?

My son took the first open spot within a 30 mile radius of home. Ended up in Westminster and passed on the first try. He had multiple friends fail twice. Note that this was a few years ago when Maryland still required parallel parking.

Don't go to Beltsville...lol

Why do the rural locations have a higher pass rate?

If you need to pick a certain location to pass the driving test you probably shouldn't be on the road to begin with. Especially now that they no longer test parallel parking, which was the only real hangup for some people. Seriously...

If it's the same as it was when I took it decades ago, driving around a course, it's a fucking joke. Anyone who can't pass a *hard* driving test shouldn't be driving, let alone an easy one. Why on earth would you want a child who drives poorly to have that behavior reinforced? Or on the roads to harm him/herself or others?

I heard this too. But we just went to the place with the time slot that worked best for us. No way am I driving to Hagerstown or Frederick for an "easy" test. If I'm giving my kid a car to drive, he better be able to pass whatever test is given in our neighborhood.

Our kids have taken their tests in Frederick. The wait time is shorter than in MoCo and I found the people nicer. When we were there recently, a woman told me that her child's driving school had recommended Frederick over Gaithersburg because they said that the road test was easier in Frederick. Some of my children's friends went to Hagerstown for their test.

We heard Frederick was easier and less crowded, so that's where we went. We had to wait for about 90 minutes and my DD's tester was gruff and just plain mean, from the little I witnessed. She passed, it was certainly not a piece of cake. This was about a year before they got rid of parallel parking.

My son did it at White Oak, seemed ok. He passed the first time.

When I was growing up, the Bel Air location had the easiest test. I also heard they did away with parallel parking but who knows if it is true.
