To make a long story short, we cancelled and when with a stand-alone carpet place.
HD wasn't worth the time and hassle.

The problem with HD installers is they are untested. They are independent contractors that HD assumes no liability for so the customer thinks they're getting someone with some sort of backing from HD when they're really just any ol average joe. So you're actually better getting a handyman or installer yourself that you can interview and select so you know what you're getting rather than whoever Home Depot sends you.
