I only use HD for flooring installs. They sub everything out. They also hold their subs accountable, and like uber if they get poor ratings they're gone. I've had issues (both carpet and wood) and they've been fixed right away. Install issues a year later get fixed immediately also.

I wouldn't have them install super high end stuff, but for normal everyday things yeah they've really cornered the market.

Also, some of their subs (especially granite) are THE top subs in the area, and you save 10-20% going with HD.

I'm the PP, the double question marks were supposed to be downward pointing arrows.

Installed services from Lowes or Home Depot are triple subbed out. No one has any idea who is actually working at your house; call HD in the middle of the job and you'll need an hour to get through to someone who can do anything about your request; ordering mishaps and missing instructions are the norm.

Here's the way it goes:

Home Depot
??
Installed Services Contractor
(Handles roofing, tile, flooring)
??
Flooring Subcontractor
??
Flooring piecework crew who are paid by the psf

The only advantage to this type of arrangement is you are able to pay for your project at $10 per month for the rest of your life.

See, I'd think carpet would be really easy to install with measurements and the product info. I guess HD can mess even that up?

They are independent contractors that HD assumes no liability for so the customer thinks they're getting someone with some sort of backing from HD when they're really just any ol average joe. So you're actually better getting a handyman or installer yourself that you can interview and select so you know what you're getting rather than whoever Home Depot sends you.

They usually sub out so find out who the installer is and look them up/get references.

I'm considering using Home Depot for a Pergo install. Anyone use Home Depot for flooring or tile? Any issues? I assume it might be cheaper to get an unaffiliated installer(?), but I like the idea of everything being guaranteed if I buy/install from Home Depot.
