With 50-60 kids per class you might want to think about Francis Stevens. Like Hardy it has large % OOB population today, but likely to shift if Foggy Bottom population grows and Ross/Thomson take it up.

Of course would vastly prefer Shaw JH to come back online. FS is really too small to offer many electives/activities.

Preferably a DCI or Latin or Basis.

If I had to choose between Deal and Hardy, then probably Hardy - Deal is just too large.

I say anything is possible I remember 20 years ago Hines Junior High and Jefferson Junior High was one of the TOP schools that you could get into only if your GPA was 3.0+ and Deal was just a good school but not the top school. Now, Hines has since closed and Jefferson is not the most sought after school.

Projecting nine years out is tricky of course, but I'm having a great deal of trouble imagining Hardy being the stronger school a decade hence on any level, other than maybe the odd class or extra-curricular. It won't be as crowded as Deal though, for what that's worth. DCPS is a notoriously slow moving train, weak on long-term planning. If you wind up closer to Hardy than Deal, and can afford the in-boundary real estate without being able to afford that for Deal, Hardy will be the school you'd rather send your sixth grader.

My first will already be done with Hardy by then and my second will be poised to start. We are IB and are fine with it.

Hardy because it's a smaller school. For me it's not so much Hardy vs Deal, I don't care for Wilson.

This. We are IB for Deal. Even if they got it to capacity, it's still a large school.

There was a lawsuit about Deal vs Hardy a few decades ago. In your imaginary scenario, you want to re-visit settled law?

Have you considered trying to be happy?

That is so far away there is really no way to tell. Boundaries could change, new schools could be built, the economy could collapse and take the quality of DCPS as a whole with it, or things could do swimmingly and DCPS could have 4 more Deals by that time.

If you're looking for a home in either of these boundaries just go with the home you like best.

Knowing what you do now about feeder schools, trends, school size, etc., do you think Hardy or Deal will be the more desirable middle school in 2025?
