Not to hijack the thread, but we are trying to get ready for preschool in September and the naked method worked fantastic, in just two days.

Except now when we have switched her into underwear, she pees in them thinking they are like having a diaper on. She hates them being wet and comes to tell me and peels them off, and will then even try to go sit on the potty afterward, but it is has been more than a week of this, and I am wondering what the heck we should do now.

Does anyone have any advice on transitioning them from bare bottom to underwear? We tried waiting a week and trying again, but we are running out of time.

My nephew was slow to train as well. He couldn't attend preschool because of it. It clearly wasn't a parenting fail because they trained their older one with no issues.

Try Goddard School. They do not require he be potty trained at 3 and will potty train him for you. Don't worry. There is no magic deadline for potty training. That is ludicrous. Every child is different.

The same thing happened with my DS but it worked out--my friend got the spot for her DD and we ended up moving a few months later anyway.

An actual preschool that isn't a daycare usually has stricter standards than a preschool daycare.
Some of those do half days, too.
Maybe try that?

You can do it!

I think it's reasonable and not rigid to require potty training by age 3. Not slamming OP that it hasn't happened, but I think it's silly to insist the school is a bad fit for asking 3 year olds to practice basic hygiene.

This. A school that has rigid expectations about development isn't one that I would want for my child when there are lots of other options.

Do the 3 day naked potty training method and get serious. You should be able to get him potty trained in the next month.

Find a different preschool. Most small co-ops don't have a potty training restriction. You can definitely find something for him to do part time without being potty trained.

It is very common for boys to take longer. My DS wasn't ready until 3 1/2, a friend's son is still working on it at 4. Don't beat yourself up, OP. It's just a developmental thing, not your fault.

You may have dodged a bullet. It the preschool is really this rigid about toilet training it may not be the best place for your child, even though your DD had a good experience there. All children are different.

It is only 8/2..can you get him trained by September. Most schools are pretty forgiving of 3 year olds.

My son who will turn three this week is not fully potty trained. He will not be able to attend preschool that we wanted and we don't have any other options for school. My daughter was trained at 2.3 and I am just feeling like a bit of a failure.

I am absolutely going to enjoy spending this last year with him without question, but feel like he is missing out on a great year of school and experiences that my daughter had. By all means I am not questioning the schools or their policies. I know this is all on me.

Can anyone relate?
