Our hw floors go into our new kitchen this week (white cabinets). Last kitchen we did in prior house used tile. I really didn't like dealing with how dirty the grout got.

LOVE Marmoleum!

We did tile about 10 years ago and we've been happy with it ever since. If it looks dated, too bad. =)

How so? There are a million colors and textures of tile. From wood grain look to traventine etc. I have grey scuffed look rectangle tile with cream cabinets and it's plenty warm looking.

What are the "kids and practicality" concerns? We have brand new hardwood our kitchen with a toddler and a preschooler. No issues. I like that any plates, cups, etc. that get dropped on the floor are less likely to break.

Don't do a tile floor with white cabinets. The overall look is too cold. Tile works better with natural wood cabinets. Hardwood works better with white.

How is tile going to protect your subfloor? Same issue.

We did tile and I put a comfort may where I prep and wash dishes. My kitchen is small but I would have gotten more mats if it wasn't. It's great to clean and for spills etc. yes it's cold. My parents did tile and out a heated floor in and that's great. We wear slippers on the house so mine are nice and ergonomic to my feet so the hardness doesn't bother me as much.

Wood is crazy in a kitchen. I've seen it too but usually seems to be old flooring and people haven't wanted to change it. Or it's in kitchens that people don't actually use. Tile is easy to clean and I think looks great (with nice tiles, obviously). And you could go for underfloor heating to make sure it's not too cold underfoot.

You get the special flood proof water lines and a water alarm.

Tile is really hard on heels/feet and is freezing cold in the winter. I had tile in my condo kitchen and really disliked it. My current house has 30 year old hard wood floors in the kitchen and they've held up just fine, whereas the tile had cracked in my previous kitchen and the grout was stained.

I had the same question. We were planning to do tile as well. I don't like hardwood in the kitchen.

Is anyone putting tile as kitchen flooring anymore? We are remodeling our kitchen and were going to use ceramic tile due to kids and practicality concerns but I was surprised that most photos of new kitchens online have hardwood, particularly with white cabinets (which is what we want). Also I looked at houses for sale in my zip code and it seems most newer kitchens also have hardwood. Since we're gutting the kitchen I almost feel it is a mistake to spend money on tile, particularly when it costs about the same as hardwood.
