My SIL works in HR. She often calls to schedule an interview with a candidate and gets a return call from the mom, who says "It's just easier this way -- I keep the family calendar, so this way he won't double book."

I really doubt this has ever happened. Maybe a millennial in high school who was applying to be a camp counselor or something.

OMG, if a candidate ever brought a parent to an interview I would immediately disqualify them from consideration. And I would have to try really hard not to laugh my ass off at the ridiculousness of the situation!

HR lady here. It's true. Our stock phrase is "We only communicate directly with applicants."

Yes, this is true. I previously worked at a boutique creative staffing agency in Bethesda as their MarComm / Web + Graphic Design recruiter. At least once a week, I had a parent accompany their millennial child to our office for an interview. These were often the same parents whose kids put me on hold so they could grab their parents to join them on their phone interview, prior to coming in person. They made my life a living hell when their kid couldn't get either a temp or temp to hire job because surely there is nobody more qualified than their special snowflake. It got to a point that I had to add in a note to my interview instructions instructing candidates that they couldn't bring anyone to their interviews and post-interview, I made it clear that I'd only communicate with the candidate - not their parents. (FWIW, I'm a millennial myself)

to = 2

2 = 1

You figure it out.

My parents did not sit in on my newspaper route interview when I was 13 and certainly would have never thought of sitting in on any post college interview of mine.

Probably.

If a parent walked in with their child during an interview I do not know whether I would start laughing out loud or what I would do.

"2" was substituted for "to" due to space constraints.

Is this true or is this just an urban legend?
